"World War One, also known as the Great War or the War to End All Wars, was a global war originating in Europe that lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. However, many of those who served did not return home until as late as June, 1919. More than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, were mobilised in one of the largest wars in history. Over nine million combatants and seven million civilians died as a result of the war.

To celebrate and mark the end of World War One, a Bank Holiday was declared in Britain, ‘Peace Day, Saturday 19th July 1919.’ These can be viewed in Bishopdale at the Rookery, former home of Colonel Lodge in the Memorabilia Section.
